County Meath is known as the Royal County as it was once the territory of the High Kings of Ireland. Some of the Country’s most important historic sites and monuments are located in County Meath – many along the valley of the River Boyne.

One of the most important sites is the magical Hill of Tara which is only 10 minutes away.

Also only 10 minutes away is the historic town of Trim, dominated by the medieval Trim Castle, which was built by Hugh de Lacy in 1173. The largest Norman castle in Europe, it is now restored and visitors can access the 75ft square keep and grounds by guided tour. Sections of the epic film Braveheart were filmed here.

Located between Trim and Dunshaughlin is one of Ireland’s oldest continually inhabited castles Dunsany Castle. The Castle is open to the public at certain times.
